Escape rooms are all the rage right now! When I played my first escape room game, I immediately knew it was something I wanted to try in math. Keep reading to find out more about math escape rooms and how to use them in your classroom!
What are Escape Rooms?
An escape room, sometimes called a breakout room, is a game where a team of players solves clues and riddles in order to “escape” from a situation. They involve a little bit of mystery, lots of excitement, and fun with the team you’re playing with.
Many cities have escape rooms that you can visit, or you can order games to complete in your own home. With all of this fun, why not use the same idea in your math classroom?
How to Use Them in the Classroom
Students love escape rooms for the same reason that adults do—they are a blast! Using an escape room in the classroom means that students:
- Get a chance to work together in a group
- Are motivated to do their best work
- Stay engaged until the end of the activity
