Valentine’s Day Fraction Activities

Valentine’s Day can be such a fun time of year in elementary school! I love celebrating with my students by passing out valentines and treats… but I really love doing fun Valentine’s Day math activities throughout the month of February! One way I like to do this is by using different Valentine’s Day fraction activities.

Riddle Activities

The thing about fractions is that no matter what concept you’re working on, students need lots of PRACTICE to get it! Repetitive practice can get pretty boring after a while, so I love to add a little twist–riddles!

Adding a riddle to an assignment not only adds a little fun to an otherwise dull worksheet, but it also makes it self-checking! If students are unable to answer the riddle correctly, they can tell that they had a mistake somewhere in their math. And hopefully, they will go back and check their work. 😉

Valentine’s Day Escape Rooms

Another way that I love to add a little extra to my Valentine’s Day fraction practice is by using escape rooms! My students absolutely LOVE completing escape rooms and request them for every unit that we work on.

An escape room is a highly engaging activity where students must solve clues to “escape” from something. In my math classroom, students have to use their math skills in order to find their clues!
